Guyana Foundation Distributes School Supplies in Railway View

On March 7th, 2014, a Guyana Foundation team visited the Railway View Community Center, which is located at the back of the village of Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara.

The makeshift community center was built by the residents from donations made over the years by various groups. The center provides an area for the many underprivileged families to bring their children to use the library and play area. The residents have a permanent snack cart located at the center where they sell refreshments daily to earn income to maintain the center.

Guyana Foundation was introduced to the community several months ago by Ms. Esther McIntosh who is actively involved in social work projects there.

The Guyana Foundation was able to distribute stationery, toys, backpacks and books to over 40 children who gathered at the center on Saturday. The items distributed were donated by Canadian-based donors, Gary and Lisa Wills, and Ms. Stephanie Walls. The children and their parents were very grateful for the donations received.
