The Guyana Foundation has handed over a few hundred children’s storybooks to Youths in Unison, a youth group based in the Upper Corentyne area of Berbice. These books will be used in the group’s afterschool reading and writing program, and at the end, will be distributed to the students. Youths in Unison have already completed 10 reading/writing sessions with children in No. 68 Village, and are doing another 10 sessions in the Kingston, Corriverton area. They plan to conduct a total of 100 sessions in 10 different areas in Berbice. The sessions are conducted under the homes of ordinary residents.
President of Youths in Unison, Ms. Rebekah Timram received the books from the Foundation’s Managing Director, Mr. Anthony Autar. She expressed her gratitude for the donation, stating that this donation will “allow the youth group to continue its mission of assisting slow learners and school dropouts with basic reading and writing skills within the Upper Corentyne Area.”
