Mental Health Workshop begins in Essequibo

In an effort to tackle the issue of mental health in Region No. 2, the Guyana Foundation Sunrise Center has partnered with the Health Department of that Region to conduct 3 - One Day training workshop which started on Monday 5th December 2016 at the Sunrise Center, Lot 1 Zorg-en-Vlygt, Essequibo Coast.

Health Care providers from three (3) areas; the riverine communities (Upper and Lower Pomeroon River); The Lake areas (Capoey, Mainstay, Tapackuma, Lima Sands, Mashaboo); and the coastal area (Supenaam – Charity) are on hand to assist in the training.

The objectives of these workshops are as followed:

  • To train Health Care Providers on how to identify various Mental Health disorders.
  • To be able to successfully screen clients for the various Mental Health disorders.
  • To develop an effective referral system between the Guyana Foundation Sunrise Centre and other existing services.

The workshop will end on Wednesday 7th December 2016.
