Mental Health Workshops conducted in Region No. 2

A Mental Health workshop by the Guyana Foundation Sunrise Center was held on Wednesday 15th February 2017 at the Suddie Hospital on the Essequibo Coast, Region No. 2. From that time on, our Counselors have also conducted workshops on suicide prevention and other social issues to police recruits in the region. Those sessions were well attended and we are seeing progress.

Over the past month, these workshops assisted in training health care providers, giving them the basic skills to be able to detect suicidal tendencies in persons and how to follow through to save lives. To date we have already trained 70 persons. Among this batch, we were able to offer counseling to some of them who have admitted that they had experienced suicidal thoughts at one point. Those workshops are now completed
