The Guyana Foundation intensified its ongoing focus on Mental Health and Suicide by working with Ambassador Halim Majeed and the Government of Cuba to host its Annual Conference in the Republic of Cuba.
On 29 – 29 March 2019, the Guyana Foundation and the University of Medical Sciences at Ciego de Avila jointly held the Third Annual International Conference on Mental Health, Drug Abuse, Suicide and Domestic Violence at Ciego de Avila at the Coco Playa Hotel in Cuba.
Two days of presentations and discussions were held by Professors and Lecturers from the University of Medical Sciences aptly coordinated by the Ministry of International Affairs.
Presenters and officials included Dr. Angel Enrique Batista Diaz, Dr. Liset Rodriguez Benitez, Dr. Bertha Jimenez Suarez, Dr. Lourdes Lopez Alvarez, Lic. Nathaly Duenas Lopez, Dr. Laura Dominguez Garcia, Dr. Miguel Angel Roca Perara, MsC. Maria Luisa Ellis Yard, Lic. Yeline Ruiz Betancourt, Lic. Danis Rodriguez Ceballos and Medical students from Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Venezuela, Mexico, Nicaragua, Niger, Ghana, El Salvador, Zambia, Sierra Leone and Cuba. Certificates were presented to the students as part of their Medical education.
The hospitality provided by the Government of Cuba and the Embassy of Guyana to the Guyana Foundation was unsurpassed. Participants expressed their deepest gratitude to the Guyana Foundation for supporting this well coordinated Conference. Trustee, Mr. Eric Phillips represented the Guyana Foundation.
This event constitutes an important highlight for Guyana and the Guyana Foundation.
